The Reusable Rocket is Finally Real

Vastly covered, nevertheless impressive engineering by the Blue Origin team that managed (in contrary to SpaceX) to bring back a rocket in one piece.
“The Shepard space vehicle reached thee edge of space at a suborbital altitude of 100.5 kilometers. The capsule then separated and touched down beneath a parachute but the BE-3 rocket also started its own descent. After the rockets fired at nearly 5,000 feet, it made a a controlled vertical landing at a gentle 4.4 mph.” Wicked!

New high-resolution galaxy shots

ESO, the European Southern Observatory has published new impressive pictures made by the VST-Tube-System showing star-forming region Messier 17, also known as the Omega Nebula or the Swan Nebula and the best portrait of the globular star cluster Omega Centauri ever made. Full resolution(!) and plenty of beautiful outer space pictures are available on the ESO page.

Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA)

Carrying a 2.5-metre telescope inside a modified Boeing 747SP, the airborne observatory performs astronomical observations in the infrared and submillimetre wavelengths, high above the disturbance of Earth’s atmosphere. Watch the video here for more details.
